One Long Day

After one of the longest days of my life, I finally got to meet my son.  Lindsay  and I arrived at the hospital at 7:30 am in the morning.  We were both excited and a little nervous, not knowing what the day would  bring.  After settling into our delivery room around 8:00am they began to induce labor.  I tried to get comfortable and relax but the anticipation was overwhelming.  Lindsay was at ease for most of the day, the contractions didn’t really get painful until almost 1:00pm and by 3:00pm she had gotten her epidural.  That’s the good news, the bad news is that she wasn’t progressing as fast as she should have been.  So around 8:30pm the nurse came in and let us know that she hadn’t dilated past a 4(she needed to get to a 10 to deliver).  I’m still not quite sure how long they were going to wait but at that point we let the nurse know that we were open for anything.  Meaning that if they needed to do a Cesarian, we were ok with that.  Within an hour the Doctor had arrived at the hospital and we were almost ready to meet Ty.  They took Lindsay away to get her prepared for surgery.

I walked down the hall into the surgery room. It looked like something out of a scary movie. I walked down the nicely decorated hospital hall and into a bright white cinder block room. Stainless steal everywhere and people with masks surrounding my wife. I sat down by her head and began to talk to her. There is a little curtain in front of her so she can’t see what’s going on. I decided to look over the little curtain to see what was going on down there…bad idea. They had just made the incision and were getting ready to pull out baby Ty. I guess my face told the story because one of the Doctors kept asking me if I was alright. I thought it would be a good idea to just focus on Lindsay until they finished their work. After just a few minutes the pulled out baby Ty. Due to exhaustion and the fact that my head was still spinning a little, I couldn’t get the camera turned on. I finally got it on and was able to snap just a few shots.

Ty’s Grand Introduction

Wow! What a day, he was finally here. After nine months and several kicks to mom’s ribs he had finally arrived. We didn’t go to bed until almost 3:00am but it was definitely worth it. The day had emotional highs and lows and everything in between. It was a day filled with love and joy and pain. It was a day like no other with moments I’ll never forget. It was once in a lifetime experience.  I walked into the nursery where I was finally able to hold my son.  I picked him up and help him in my arms.  Some friends had told me what a special moment this would be and now I believe it.  I could instantly see some of my wife’s features and mine own in him already.  They were weighing and measuring him.  He was 6 pounds and 15 ounces and 18 1/2 inches long.  He was so small in my arms but so big in my heart.  So let me be the first to say welcome to the world Ty, we’re going to have a lot of fun!
