Tapfiliate vs. Rewardful vs. AffiliateHQ: What Each One Is Built For

by | Oct 31, 2026 | Affiliate Management, Articles

Rewardful, Tapfiliate, and AffiliateHQ solve three different problems. Rewardful was built for Stripe-native subscription tracking. Tapfiliate was built for ecommerce tracking across multiple storefronts. AffiliateHQ was built to run the program, not only track it. Pick based on which of those three problems is yours.

Business owner comparing affiliate software options

Most affiliate software comparisons rank platforms on a feature checklist and declare a winner. That’s the wrong exercise. These three tools were designed by different people to solve different problems, and the one that fits you depends entirely on how you sell and what part of the job you hate doing.

I’ve run programs on most of the platforms on this list. Below is what each one was built to do, where each one wins, and what two of the three don’t include as of September 2026.

What Rewardful was built for

Rewardful was built from the ground up for Stripe and subscription billing, and it does that job cleanly. The platform automatically adjusts commissions for upgrades, downgrades, free trials, cancellations, and refunds, which is the part of SaaS affiliate tracking that breaks most general-purpose tools.

Rewardful’s two-way Stripe sync writes affiliate data back into Stripe. It adds metadata to Stripe customer and invoice records, so your customer details, transaction data, coupon codes, and subscription updates stay identical in both systems. If your accountant reconciles affiliate payouts against Stripe every month, that alone is worth the subscription.

Pricing starts at $49 per month for the Starter plan with a 14-day trial and no transaction fee. Growth runs $99 per month and Enterprise runs $149 per month. Starter covers up to $7,500 in monthly affiliate revenue and Growth raises that to $15,000, which is the pricing mechanic you need to understand before you sign up, because you get pushed to a higher tier by revenue, not by feature need.

The constraint is the payment processor. Rewardful works with Stripe and Paddle. If you process orders anywhere else, you can’t use it. I wrote a full breakdown in my Rewardful review if you want the detail on tracking accuracy and reporting limits.

Recurring commissions on subscription products need a structure decision before you pick software, because the platform you choose will lock in what’s possible. My guide on how to structure affiliate commissions for a SaaS product walks through lifetime versus 12-month versus first-payment models and what each one costs you. Read it before you configure anything.

What Tapfiliate was built for

Tapfiliate was built for tracking across multiple storefronts and payment systems at once. It ships more than 30 pre-built integrations covering Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Stripe, PayPal, Squarespace, and Zapier, plus a REST API, a JavaScript pixel, and server-to-server postback tracking for anything the native connectors don’t handle.

Breadth is the whole point. If you sell on Shopify and WooCommerce and also run a subscription box on Stripe, Tapfiliate tracks all three in one program without you writing custom attribution logic. Rewardful can’t do that. Neither can most Shopify-native apps.

Tapfiliate starts at $74 per month for the Launch plan, which includes 50 affiliates, 5,000 clicks, and 500 conversions monthly. Scale runs $149 per month with higher limits. Tapfiliate charges a flat monthly subscription with no success fee, so a percentage of your affiliate revenue never leaves. Compare that to Social Snowball at $249 per month plus 3% of affiliate sales, where $50,000 in affiliate revenue costs you an extra $1,500 that month.

The tradeoff is setup friction on Shopify specifically. Tapfiliate is not a Shopify-native app, so you’re dealing with JavaScript integration and occasional troubleshooting after a theme update. If Shopify is your only store, read how to set up an affiliate program on Shopify before you commit, because a native app may save you a weekend.

Multi-store tracking gets complicated fast when the same customer touches two of your properties before buying. I covered the rules for crediting that sale in Affiliate attribution models explained, including first click, last click, and why your choice changes which affiliates stay in your program.

What AffiliateHQ was built for

I built AffiliateHQ because tracking was never my problem. I’ve run programs at every scale for more than 20 years, scaling one from $0 to $1 million a month and another from $15 million to $325 million a year. Four Affiliate Manager of the Year awards later, the software still let me down in the same place: it tracked the sale and then left me to do the actual job.

The job is recruiting partners, writing swipe copy affiliates will use, activating the 95% who sign up and never promote, and diagnosing why the program stalled. Every platform I used treated that work as somebody else’s problem. Whoever built the software had never run a program for a living.

So every feature in AffiliateHQ maps to the system I teach in The Book on Affiliate Management and have practiced for two decades. Three of those features don’t exist anywhere else on this list, and I’ll name them in the next section rather than burying them.

Software won’t recruit your first partners for you, no matter which platform you pick. Your First 100 Affiliates is my free report on the exact strategies I used to recruit 604 affiliates and build a $1.1 million per month program in 18 months, including where to find top affiliates and the email templates I sent them.

Where each platform wins

Rewardful wins when Stripe or Paddle is your only processor and subscriptions are your only product. The lifecycle handling and the two-way sync are cleaner than anything Tapfiliate offers for that specific case, and $49 per month is the cheapest honest entry point of the three.

Tapfiliate wins when you sell across more than one storefront or processor. The 30-plus integrations and flat no-success-fee pricing make it the sane pick for a brand running Shopify plus WooCommerce plus a Stripe checkout, and it stays affordable as affiliate revenue grows because your bill doesn’t scale with your sales.

AffiliateHQ wins when tracking isn’t your bottleneck and program management is. If you can already see clicks and conversions but your affiliates aren’t promoting, more tracking detail won’t fix that. I’ve watched program owners spend six months evaluating attribution features while 90% of their partner list sat dormant.

None of this is a knock on the other two. Rewardful does Stripe subscription tracking better than I would have built it, and Tapfiliate’s integration breadth is legitimately hard to match. For the broader category question, my guide on choosing the best affiliate program software covers networks, standalone tools, and SaaS platforms side by side.

What Rewardful and Tapfiliate don’t include as of September 2026

As of September 26, 2026, neither Rewardful nor Tapfiliate lists three capabilities that AffiliateHQ ships natively. Verify current feature sets on each vendor’s site before you decide, because affiliate software changes fast and this comparison has a shelf life.

First, an AI swipe copy generator that learns your voice from example emails. Both platforms distribute swipe copy through a creative library. Neither one writes it. You upload files or paste text you already wrote. AffiliateHQ ingests emails you sent and generates new swipe copy that sounds like you rather than like a generic AI draft, which matters because affiliates can tell the difference and so can their lists.

Second, a native MCP server. Tapfiliate’s public API is exposed to Claude and ChatGPT through third-party wrappers like Composio and Pipedream, so agent access is technically possible with setup work and a separate vendor. Neither Tapfiliate nor Rewardful ships a first-party MCP server. AffiliateHQ does, which means you open Claude and type “show me every affiliate who drove traffic last month but zero sales” in plain English and get the answer back from live program data.

Third, an AI Program Analyzer that grades your program by category and returns the specific fix. Both competitors give you dashboards. A dashboard tells you your active affiliate rate is 8%. It doesn’t tell you that your onboarding sequence stops after day three and that’s why. AffiliateHQ grades recruiting, activation, communication, commission structure, and terms separately, then hands back the change to make first.

Before you migrate anything, get a second set of eyes on what your program needs. I offer a free 20-minute call at Your Affiliate Launch Coach where I review your current program and give you an action plan for the next 30 to 60 days. Bring your numbers.

How to choose between the three

Answer three questions in order and the choice usually makes itself.

Where do you process payments? If the answer is Stripe or Paddle and nothing else, Rewardful is on your shortlist and stays there. If you process through Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or a mix, Rewardful drops off immediately and Tapfiliate moves up.

How many storefronts do you sell through? One store means you have more options, including native apps I haven’t covered here. Two or more means integration breadth stops being a nice feature and starts being the requirement.

Which part of the job is costing you money? If you’re losing commissions to broken attribution, buy tracking. If your affiliates signed up and went quiet, tracking won’t help and you should buy management. Most program owners I talk to have the second problem and keep shopping for solutions to the first.

Budget matters less than people expect at this stage. All three land between $49 and $149 per month at the entry tiers, which is noise compared to what a stalled program costs you. I broke down the full startup math in how much it costs to start an affiliate program.

One more thing worth checking before you sign: cookie duration settings. Rewardful lets you set your own window to match your sales cycle, and so does Tapfiliate. If you sell a product with a 45-day consideration period and you leave the default at 30, you’re quietly stiffing the affiliates who did the work. My post on what makes a good affiliate cookie duration covers how to pick the number.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rewardful or Tapfiliate better for a SaaS company?

Rewardful, if you bill through Stripe or Paddle. It was built specifically for subscription billing and automatically adjusts commissions for upgrades, downgrades, trials, cancellations, and refunds. Tapfiliate also serves SaaS, but its advantage is integration breadth across ecommerce platforms, which a single-processor SaaS business doesn’t need. If you bill through something other than Stripe or Paddle, Rewardful isn’t an option at all.

Can I run a Shopify affiliate program on Rewardful?

No. Rewardful works with Stripe and Paddle only. Shopify merchants need Tapfiliate, a Shopify-native app, or another platform with a direct Shopify integration. Tapfiliate connects to Shopify through its integration library, though it requires JavaScript setup rather than a one-click install, and theme updates can occasionally break tracking until you reconnect it.

What does AffiliateHQ do that Tapfiliate and Rewardful don’t?

Three things as of September 2026: an AI swipe copy generator trained on your own sent emails, a native MCP server that lets you run the program from Claude in plain English, and an AI Program Analyzer that grades recruiting, activation, communication, commissions, and terms separately and returns a specific fix. Tapfiliate’s API is reachable by AI agents through third-party wrappers, but neither competitor ships a first-party MCP server.

How much does each platform cost?

Rewardful starts at $49 per month for Starter, $99 for Growth, and $149 for Enterprise, with tiers gated by monthly affiliate revenue at $7,500 and $15,000. Tapfiliate starts at $74 per month for Launch, which includes 50 affiliates, 5,000 clicks, and 500 conversions, and $149 per month for Scale. Both charge zero transaction fees. Verify current pricing on each site, since these numbers reflect September 2026.

Should I use an affiliate network instead of any of these?

Only if recruiting from scratch is the blocker you can’t solve. Networks give you access to affiliates already on the platform, and you pay a network fee on top of commissions plus give up some ownership of the relationship. Standalone software keeps the data and the relationships on your side. I compared both paths in detail in affiliate network vs. in-house program.

How do I know if my tracking is the actual problem?

Check your active affiliate rate first. If more than 10% of your partners promoted in the last 90 days and your commissions still look wrong, you have a tracking problem. If fewer than 10% promoted, your tracking is probably fine and your program management is the issue. How affiliate tracking works explains the mechanics if you want to diagnose the first case.

What to do next

Start with your payment processor, because it eliminates options faster than anything else. Stripe-only subscription businesses should trial Rewardful. Multi-storefront ecommerce brands should trial Tapfiliate. Both offer trials, so run a real promotion through each rather than clicking around the demo.

Then ask the harder question. If your tracking already works and your affiliates still aren’t promoting, no amount of attribution granularity fixes that. That’s the gap I built AffiliateHQ to close, and it’s why every feature in it maps to what I teach rather than to a competitor’s feature grid.

Whichever platform you land on, get your ecommerce affiliate strategy or your SaaS partner strategy written down before you configure a single commission rule. The software enforces the plan. It doesn’t make one.
