How Smart Affiliates Are Using AI (And How You Can Too) – Part 1
Ever feel like you’re putting in more hours than ever, but your affiliate income isn’t keeping up? Well, you’re not alone. But here’s the good news. Smart affiliates are already using AI to. Save time, simplify their content, and sell more without sounding like a robot. So today we’re kicking off a brand new series on how to use AI as an affiliate marketer. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to scale up, Let’s get started.
Well, welcome to the first episode of our new AI for Affiliate Marketer series. If you missed the first, the past six, six episodes, I should say I did an entire series on how affiliate managers can use AI to grow their affiliate programs. And if you’re an affiliate manager, definitely go back and listen to that series. But you should also listen to this series.
Okay, so if you’re an affiliate manager, you still need to listen to this series because the things I’m going to teach you, I’m going to teach affiliates are relevant to you. In fact, there’s, there’s going to be a little crossover affiliate management. There’ll be things that I suggest affiliates do that you’re gonna want to know because maybe you can do it for them. And not to mention, the more you know about how affiliates operate, the better affiliate manager you will be.
I’ve said it so many times, the. Best way to get better as an. Affiliate manager is to become an affiliate. So while this series is primarily for affiliates, you know, affiliate marketers, don’t skip it if you’re an affiliate manager. Okay, real quick, heads up. I am suffering from the tail end of some sort of a virus that ripped my sinuses and my throat apart. Like I.
For days I could barely speak. So you may notice I sound a little nasally. At least I do to myself. I’m struggling to breathe through my nose, so I’m going to pause a lot. We’ll edit that out. But I’m just forewarning you that I do sound a little bit different and if I get a little bit hoarse. Toward the end, that’s why. And hopefully it won’t be so bad after the editing is done.
Usually I don’t really edit these things other than maybe like midway through, I’ll take a sip of water. But today I’m probably going to end up having this one edited quite a bit just because I think I’m going to have to pause like every three minutes to drink water because of my throat. And actually I’ve got some throat coat. Tea, so I’ll be drinking that. And I’m probably going to sneeze a lot and have to blow my nose a lot.
So hopefully that won’t affect things too much. But in this episode, we’re going to cover 10ish ways, you know, to use AI to create content faster to sell without, you know, sounding like a used car salesman and stand out as someone who actually helps people. Not it’s not about hype, it’s about helping. And as I mentioned before in the, you know, in the previous episodes, I don’t know how many ways I will. Cover in each episode.
I think I’ve got 10 on the docket for today. Maybe I’ll get to all 10. Maybe I’ll get the six and be. Like, okay, we’re at about a half hour. Let’s call it quits. Maybe I’ll finish the 10 and be like, what am I supposed to do? I guess a short episode. I don’t know. I really don’t know. Honestly, I don’t know how many episodes. There will be in this series. We will find out together. So with all that said, let’s jump in with way number one that affiliate marketers can use AI. The first way is to summarize product features. Okay, so when a company has product features, kind of boring, raw products features, right? Summarizing those into easy to sell benefits.
Need help activating your affiliates? Use my proven email templates for getting inactive affiliates in the game and making sales! Get them here!
The reality is that your, your copy is not going to convert. When people don’t understand the product. And what we get from most companies is we get a bunch of, you know, product descriptions that are filled with jargon, they’re filled with specs. So it’s like it contains quantum secure email encryption. What does that even mean? You know, 23 grams of protein. Okay, cool. I know a lot about that. Having been an athlete and, you know, having been on my own journey over the years. I know what, I know that 23 grams of protein in a serving is pretty good. But does the average person know that, you know, what does that mean? Is that an entire meal with 23. Well, that’s not a lot of protein then, you know, depending upon your goals.
So what does it mean? Like quantum security moment? Like, that’s fine if you’re an engineer. That’s fine if you’re a fitness freak, but most of your audience doesn’t understand that stuff and your audience wants to know how it helps them. So one of the best ways you can use AI take a complicated product and turn it into benefits. So helps you recover faster after workouts. Okay, Boom. Got it. I understand what that means. I’m going to recover faster. Saves you four hours a week.
Great. I’m going to save four hours. Keeps your inbox from turning into a, you know, a data breach. Data breach is probably not the best word there, but you get the idea, right? So here’s the prompt that I’ve been using when I’ve been doing affiliate promotions. Now remember, benefits are what sells specs. Just give people a reason to say, I’ll think about that. Okay. Specs are not what they want most of the time. You have a brand new product in a brand new market and you’re targeting that half a percent of the early adopters. Yeah. Include some specs. They will care about the quantum secure stuff. They’ll care that it has 27 micrograms of this, you know, mineral. Most people don’t though. It’s like, hey, improves your eyesight.
So here’s the prompt. Summarize the key features of and then insert like, you know, this product. I’m going to provide you with the. The product description. Summarize this key. The key features of this product into three simple benefits that appeal to name your audience. So I did one recently. This is literally from something I wrote this morning. Summarize the key features of gmass into an. I put five into five simple benefits that appeal to busy affiliate managers. That was my, that was my prompt. Could use the same kind of prompt to do this over and over again. Remember, benefits are what sell the results. Our what? So the second way is to plan your promos. So I use, I have one AI chat that I use to plan promotional strategy.
So I will tell it, you know, I’ve got, I’ve got seven days to promote this product. Help me brainstorm some promotional angles, create a calendar and prep the email briefs. Prep my social media breeze. It doesn’t write the emails, it doesn’t write the social media posts. I have a different chat for each of those. Okay. So I take the email briefs. Once I’ve, you know, it helps me plan the angles and I will have, if I have, if I plan on sending 10 emails in seven days, I will have it write out all 10 and then I’ll say, okay, I don’t. Like number two, seven and nine.
If you remember in the previous episodes. I told you when you want 10, you always ask it for 15 or 20. I don’t do this here because I’m trying to have it think sequentially. So it’ll write out the promo plan just as like general ideas. I’ll correct a couple of them. I’ll say, okay, here’s the 10 email plan. Now I would like for you because. I want it to have the full picture because I don’t want it to be repetitive. I’d like for you to write the. Email briefs for each of those 10. Emails and it writes them and then I correct maybe three and five or like a little, you know, there’s a couple points that are off and I’ll, I’ll have a back and forth with it where I correct it. After this is all in like a six minute span, I have the email briefs.
Then I will put it into the chat, my other chat that I have to write the emails and I will give it all 10 briefs and then tell it to write the first email. Now as I mentioned before, I always ask it, do you have any questions for me? If so, please ask them one at a time. And it asks me one at a time any questions that it has. It gets clarifying information. So this plan that I’ve created, the whole plan plus the writing of the emails only takes about 30 minutes. Now if you notice in there I. Mentioned that I give it all 10 days and then I have it do it one at a time. Why wouldn’t I have it just write all 10 emails?
Because I want to provide feedback on the first email before it writes the second, and so on and so forth. Usually by the fourth one I just end up copying and pasting them like they’re perfect. But I do that one at a time. But I give it the whole brief for all 10 in the calendar so that it doesn’t duplicate things. It doesn’t say. Well, I want to say this in the first email, but wait, nope, I’m going to say that in email number eight because it’s more relevant in email number eight.
So I’ll tease it in email number seven. And it creates this whole picture of what this email sequence is going to look like. But I have it write it one at a time. So this keeps us from falling into panic mode or sending the same type of email over and over and over again. So a very simple prompt that I would use for the first one is help me plan a seven day promo. Here are the resources you know, for this product. So it might be the swipe copy, it might be the, you know, the sales page copy. Typically I like to download that as a PDF. I download the sales page as a PDF and then upload it. I just find that works better.
I don’t know why, but it does, it really does. And I say, you know, each email should, you know, write a five day promo for this. Each email should focus on a different angle. Benefit testimonials, faq, a few that overcome objections. One that introduces a bonus. You know, the final three should all be scarcity minded because they’re on the last day. And then I let it do it and it generates the brief and then I upload those briefs into a separate chat to write the emails.
The third cool way is to write casual mention scripts for social or email. You know, if you ever think like, I want to mention this product, but I don’t want to sound like a salesperson, that this is what I’m talking about here. I talked about this, I think a couple of episodes for affiliate managers where I said, hey, affiliate managers, you should be doing this for your affiliates.
But obviously affiliates, you can do it too. You can use AI to write these short blurbs that sound like, you know, you’re just texting a friend, you’re just dropping a tip in a conversation. So people buy from people that they trust. And what I love about casual mentions is these casual mentions build trust without a lot of pressure. It’s not a sales email. I might, I mentioned GMAs earlier. That’s on my mind. So I’ll just, you know, I’ll use that here.
I might write an email where the email or, you know, or the Instagram post or whatever is all about how to recruit affiliates. And I’m not really selling Anything. I’m just giving advice on how to recruit affiliates but I mentioned that, hey, I like to send 50 a day. And the way that I send 50 a day is by using gmask and I write two sentences where I talk about why it’s awesome and that’s it. And so I’ll, I’ll use a prompt. I have a, actually a prompt generator that I use consistently in ChatGPT where I just write, you know, hey, write a casual email.
You know, let’s add a casual mention to this email. I will paste the email below and I would like to mention the product gmass and make it sound like a real life, you know, casual mention, not an ad. And I’ll basically say, you know, do it in 50 words or less but do talk about some of the benefits to using it. And typically I’ve provided those already.
If not, I’ll provide them. Maybe I’ll link to some content that I’ve written, you know, things like that about the product. I just very simple. And it updates the email with a little blurb about GMAs. I’ll put a link to it and it’s is not the feature of the email. But usually when I do that I sell 75% as much as I would if I had done a dedicated email all about GMask. So I sell 75% as much but without really going into a lot of detail about it or feeling like I’m selling something. Another great way number four here to use AI is to repurpose old blog posts into reels or stories. And so one of the things that I look at about every quarter to six months is I look at my old blog posts. Which ones of them are popular?
The reason I say blog posts is because blog posts have become less popular over the years. Again, they’re not unpopular, many people still love them, but the popularity has gone down by a factor of about 20 to 30, 35%. So I want to repurpose those into other materials. So I look at the ones that have done well and you know, I’m looking for the ones that for me have roughly a thousand views in the previous six months. You know, that’s, that’s still a pretty popular post. And I use AI to turn them into, you know, 32nd minute long reels, stories.
You could turn them into TikToks, all kinds of stuff that lead into whatever you want to sell. It could be, it could be an affiliate product, it could be just leading into your content to build your list. And so you’re not really creating More content. You’re actually just using what already worked but in a new format. And that’s why this works so well. So I’ll have a prompt, I have one that I use specifically for some different affiliates.
I’ve got like seven or eight of these that do this often. And I’ll say, hey, summarize this blog post into a 30 second Instagram reel script. Keep it upbeat, end with a recommendation for our planner, you know, and if I, if it doesn’t have the information on our planner, I’ll then include that information. But you know, you could do that, make it a 60 second whatever. But this works really, really well. It’s a really cool way to kind of create extra content as well.
Way number five is to do interview prep. So for anybody doing interviews, you know, you’re interviewing product creators, authors, anyone who is representing a product, whether you’re doing on YouTube, podcast, you know, Instagram live, whatever, ask AI to help you prep questions that don’t sound generic. You know, good interviews can get a lot of traction. They give you a lot of shareable content because then you can use AI later on to hey, turn this 45 minute interview into a bunch of one to two minute clips. And so you could get so much content out of a great interview. And so I’ve done this with authors. I usually do read their book in advance or at least a good portion of it, or listen to it or whatever. And then I will highlight some passages and I’ll basically take those highlights and I’ll say, here’s some things I’ve highlighted in their book.
Give me 25 unique and insightful interview questions to ask the author or the creator of this product. Include one about their origin story, one about responsibility, results, one that would make them laugh, you know, include some tough questions, etc. Etc. And again, I’m not going to use 25 questions. I’m going to use 12, 15 maybe, but I asked for 25 and if I only like seven of them, I’ll say, here are the seven I like.
Now I would like 25 more. And now it kind of gets an idea of, okay, this is what he’s looking for, etc. Etc. So I have an ongoing chat, I’ve only used it, I think I’ve only done three interviews since I created it, so it’s really hasn’t learned a ton. But I have an ongoing chat, so anytime you guys know, if you listen, I don’t do a ton of interviews, but when I do, I use AI to get me a list of questions and sometimes I have a few that I’ve already written and I might even tell it that like here’s some I’ve already thought of.
Are there some good follow up questions to this? You know, et cetera, et cetera. So using AI to prep for interviews is a great, great way, great way to use AI there. The sixth way is comparisons. All right, creating a comparison breakdown between two or more products. This is something I did recently when I created Affiliate Email Pro. If you haven’t checked that out, by the way, if you’re an affiliate manager, it’s tool that you absolutely have to have.
I, I talked about it a bunch in the past few episodes. When I created that I wanted to do a comparison to ChatGPT, just ChatGPT. The same thing. When I created Affiliate Terms wizard which helps you create terms and conditions for your affiliate program, I did the same thing. I took a chat in Chat GPT that I created and they said compare this to hiring an attorney. What are the differences?
What are, what are the ways where I can highlight that, you know, you’re not going to pay thousands of dollars or you know, blah blah, blah. And it created this comparison chart in a matter of seconds. Yes, I could have done it and it would have taken me a half an hour, 20 minutes maybe on the low end. But I did it in 30 seconds and it was better because it thought of some things. I was like, I didn’t even think about that. I never. One of the ones for Affiliate Terms wizard was like, you know, something like goes on vacation and so all. So if you look at the chart, if you go to mattmcwaims.Com termswizard and I’ll put the link to that in the show notes along with Affiliate Email Pro. If you go there, you’ll see that down the right side of the.
Where it says, you know, affiliate Terms wizard is the right side, attorneys are on the left side. And it’s all green check marks for, for Affiliate Terms Wizard. And then under attorneys, it’s all red X’s, except for one that’s like a yellow question mark. But then the final one is something like, you know, goes on vacation. And finally, lawyers get a green check mark and term soldier gets a red X. You know, And I was like, I never would have thought of that. And I thought that was so funny that AI did that. And so it really just helps give clarity. It’s a visual thing, like, boom, okay, I got it, I got it. You know, I got what the difference is between these two products. And so you can use AI to help them choose between two great products especially, or three or four, and create these, these comparison charts. And so just simple prompt.
It’s like, compare product A versus product B. For a female entrepreneur who wants to save time and reduce stress and has, you know, is. Is busy with her kids. Summarize in seven bullet points. And so this positions you as the guide, not. Not just somebody who’s selling because you’re saying, hey, here’s two different products, both of which could be great for you. And the cool thing about that is if they decide, no, that one’s not for me, they have the other one and you make a commission either way. That’s why I like this one.
The best. Number seven way that you can use AI for affiliate marketing is to turn testimonials into social proof posts. AI is great at taking any type of content and turning it into better content, turning it into different content, turning it into expanded content. I can’t tell you how many times I have used AI. I’ve written 30 or, you know, 30 to 50 words and said, turn this into a blog post. And it turns it into a blog post. In my voice, in my style, and my tone, that’s 800 words long, pulling from all of my other content. That’s the cool thing.
I can’t tell how many times I’ve done the opposite. Where it’s like, hey, I just did this. We just updated my toolbox page. So if you haven’t checked that out in a while, mattmcwams.com toolbox I’ll make sure to link to that in the show notes as well. We just did a massive update to it and I did all the writing for it. But previously, the way we had it formatted, it didn’t matter if a block of text, if one block of text. So Imagine three columns, right? And there’s three products, and the images are all the same size. But then one block of text would be 47 words, another would be 72, and another would be, you know, 35. And the way we had it formatted before, the tool we were using before, it didn’t matter.
In the button at the bottom that says, like, learn more, buy now would be in the same spot every time. But when we did this update, and we did it for various reasons because we had a new theme, we ended up the. The box floated and it just kind of looked funky for a couple of months. It wasn’t a terrible thing, but it, it bothered me. And, you know, we did notice that conversions were down a little bit, and that could be for a myriad of reasons. So I was like, okay, let’s get it where every description is between 47 and 53 words. And every description, we told it what width it was going to be. We told, AI, it’s going to fit in this.
We need it to be 47 to 53 words. And we need it to be exactly eight lines on this page. And then I said, here’s the 107 word description that I wrote. Turn it into a. Turn it fit it into that box. And it did. It’s so good at doing stuff like that. I could work at that.

I mean, I used to do that with different, you know, pages where I would try to get it in and I’d have to be like, okay, now I got to rewrite that word. What happens if I turn, you know, this word? I say, you know, this is the most amazing tool I’ve ever used. And I turned it into. This is my favorite tool. Okay, let’s shorten it. Boom. You know, and it took a while. AI does it in seconds. Especially when you’re doing this on 50 things. It’s amazing. But you can also use it for these social proof posts. So you can turn a great testimonial into a short IG caption, a carousel slide, a voiceover script for a reel. Testimonials are so good. They are so good at building trust with your audience. And when you format them right, that’s what ends up getting clicks.
So simple. Prompt. Turn this testimonial into a short, high impact Instagram caption with a strong CTA to check out. Name the product and then you just paste the testimonial and let it do the work. And sometimes, like with stuff like this, I’ll say, please give me three options, because it will generate three options. And I really like the second one or the third one or whatever when I have it, do one. Sometimes, like I don’t like it, let’s see another. And then it just takes a little bit longer.
So ask it for three options on any of these things. Or like I said, if you’re going to need, if you need three options, ask it for 10. All right, way number eight. Absolutely. One of my favorite. I have been using this for over a year now, and that is brainstorming bonus ideas. Okay. Brainstorming bonus ideas to add, you know, like a bonus stack if you aren’t adding bonuses. I have entire episodes on why you need bonuses and how to create good bonuses. Okay. A lot of times you don’t need to create one. In fact, right now we have so many bonuses we can offer that how I do this is I actually ask AI.
I’ll say, here’s something we’re promoting, here’s everything I have that could be a bonus. What do you recommend? But if you don’t have what I have, I’ve got over 60 products now. That could be a good bonus. If you don’t have 60, you’ve only got, you know, a few. Well then ask AI, what could you create? A good bonus can literally double or more. We’ve seen a 240% increase in our tests, your conversion rate.
Okay, so say give me 10, five, whatever number you know, you could always start with a few. Again, if you’re looking for three, you know, three bonuses, ask it for 10. So give me 10 bonus ideas I could offer people who buy. And then I’m going to provide the product description, et cetera, et cetera. My audience is. And then describe your audience. So what I would start with is again, like, I didn’t talk about this before. Let me back up a few steps here. I have separate chats for all these things. So the chat that I have specifically for, I call it Bonus Brainstorm is the name of the chat. And I started by saying I gave the, the chat a Persona that’s very important. I talked about this, I don’t know, four or five episodes ago.
But I would say you are a marketing expert. You are knowledgeable about affiliate marketing, comma. See, I use voice to text so much I start saying those things. So I’m going to not say the commas if I can remember it. You are a, you are a marketing expert. You’re an expert at affiliate marketing. Brainstorming bonus package ideas for, you know, for affiliate offers and you know, what audiences will react to and what they will buy. If you go to my website, go to mattmcwamies.com and look up the word bonuses. You’ll see some content on there about bonuses.
There’s some, some old articles that I wrote. Find those and you can use that to train. That’s what I used. So I copied and pasted those blog posts. I said a good bonus does this, you know, it over helps overcome objections. It sweetens the pot, yada yada yada. Right. Again just copy and paste from the article. And I told it that a good bonus package would at least equal the price of what I’m selling as an affiliate, but doesn’t exceed more than two times the price. And so again I would give it an example like you know, that means if I’m selling a product that is $1,000, a good bonus package is between 1 and $2,000.
So I give it these parameters and I give it all of the, the information that it needs to know what a good bonus is. I’m training it. It takes five minutes. I then will upload. I usually give it like 10 promos I’ve done in the past with some examples just as like a guide to get it thinking essentially. And then it’s like, okay, I understand. Then I’ll say, okay, I’m promoting XYZ. I’m promoting GMAs. Oh, and I give it a list of the products that I have as well. And I do, I do tell it. You can suggest new bonus ideas as well that are not currently created. I’m open to that. So I’ll say, I’m promoting gmass.
Here’s what gmas is and who it’s for. Give me five good bonus ideas I could offer people who buy gmassk through my affiliate link, and it recommends those. And what I will typically do in that chat is I’ll say, okay, here, please give me five bonus ideas based on my current products that I have that fit the criteria. And it will say, here’s, you know, product. And it’ll list three things that I could offer. And. Or it might list three, you know, seven depending upon if I asked it to. And it would be like, here are the combinations of those that fit the criteria. Because, you know, this. If the thing is $1,000, you know, here’s this one. Bonus alone is worth $1500. So, you know, here’s how you could organize those. And then I might be like, okay, I like this one and this one. That’s not.
Give me some ideas for products I could create based on my audience that would fit as a good bonus. And then I’ll create a new thing if need be. So it’s amazing at generating these ideas. AI is so good at brainstorming. It’s one of the best uses of AI, just in general is brainstorming. All right, number nine is creating product explainers. Very quick product explainers. So sometimes people aren’t buying. We talked about this earlier because they are confused. So use AI to write a short casual script that you can record as a voice note an Instagram reel, an Instagram story, whatever.
When you teach clearly, when you educate your audience, you build authority and you remove those objections. You remove the obstacles to buying. So simple prompt. Write a casual, clear explanation of what name of product is and how it targets name of target audience. Solve blank the problem, right? So something like write a casual, clear explanation of. I’m looking around my desk to see if any products. What Well, you know the name of these things. Let’s see here. I don’t know if they have a brand name Fred something. It’s worn off.
So what the. I’ll call it Fred Smith. Right? A casual, clear explanation of what the Fred Smith blue light glasses do and how they help people who work on computers solve headaches, eye fatigue, and, you know, other eye problems. Use a friendly tone, like I’m talking to a friend. That’s the prompt. Very simple. And our final one is turning a single product feature, one feature of a product into a carousel post. So take one feature of the product you’re promoting and stretch it into six, eight slides on an Instagram carousel. One product can literally produce dozens, dozens of posts. You will never run out of content.
If you are ready to take your business to the next level and start an affiliate program, start with my free report, Your First 100 Affiliates. This report takes nearly two decades of experience, trial and error, and lessons learned about finding top affiliates in nearly every conceivable niche and puts them all into one report. Grab your copy here!
So the key is to focus on one feature. One feature. What problems does it solve? So you just prompt it and say, write a six slide Instagram carousel. This is one I just did. Write a six slide Instagram carousel that explains how product feature so how the email Scheduling feature on GMask Works and how it helps affiliate managers to work less and avoid working on nights and weekends and spend more time with their family. Include slide headlines and captions. So typically if I want to create a six slide one, I would actually. This prompt that I just read there was the final go at it. So it was already done, but I would typically ask it for like 12 and it’ll, it’ll write different things. And so again, you, I mean, you could literally create so much content from this, it’s mind blowing.
So, quick recap, you can. I mean, one of the best uses of AI is planning your promos. Another great use is kind of translating the techie specs into benefits, creating social content from, you know, your old blog posts and whatnot, creating those bonuses and brainstorming like we talked about and creating all those different explainers.
Again, focusing on the benefits, that’s the key thing. If you want any of these prompts, I mean, they’re pretty simple, but if you want me to, you know, just to send them to you, just text me what you want at You can copy and paste them there. Listen, this whole thing, it’s not about, I know a lot of the fear that I’ve been hearing and I’ve heard for a while, you’re not going to turn into a bot.
This is not about becoming a cyborg, all right? Ultimately, it’s really all about saving time. It’s about making things a little bit easier, but it’s about being able again, as I said before, doing the things that only you can do. That’s what it allows you to do. So we’ve got a ton more coming up. I don’t know again, 2, 3, 7. No idea how many more episodes we’re going to do coming up. I know we’re going to talk about, you know, how the smart affiliates are using AI to batch content.
That’s a huge one. How to find new audiences and how to kind of create some of those, I call them backdoor promos that don’t even feel like promotions. So make sure and no matter what your role, affiliate managers hit subscribe, affiliates hit subscribe. Make sure you hit subscribe so you don’t miss the upcoming episodes. I’ll see you in the next one.
See you soon.
